Which Mac should you buy? MacBook Buyer’s Guide 2015

Since I’m a Mac user and I’ve reviewed many Apple products I decided to make a Mac Buyer’s Guide video to help you decide which MacBook would be the best for you.

3 MacBook Models

Best prices on MacBook Airs

Video Transcript:

What’s up guys? Welcome to MyTechMethods. So there have been a lot of rumors about this new 2015 MacBook Air 12 inch retina that’s supposed to be coming out this year, and yesterday 9to5 Mac released some mockup photos according to their close Apple source. Again nothing has been confirmed by Apple. These are just rumors, but they’re usually right on this thing coming from their source. So we’re gonna go over the new design, everything you need to know about this new rumored 2015 MacBook Air. So remember these pictures I’m gonna show you, it’s not the final design. It’s just mockup photos that were designed by 9to5 Mac, but they designed it according to what they heard from their Apple source. So let’s go over this new rumored 2015 MacBook Air. So it is a 12 inch display. This is different from the 13 inch and 11 inch models that Apple has released in the past, and this new 12 inch MacBook Air is of course going to be smaller than the 13 inch but it’s also narrower than the current 11 inch. So Apple is trying their hardest to make this laptop the smallest and thinnest Apple laptop ever and they’re sacrificing a lot of features. So first of all the bezels around the display have been reduced on all sides so it’s an entire unibody redesign, along with the keyboard that goes from edge to edge leaving hardly any space on the left and right side of the keyboard. And Apple is also bunching up the keys making them closer together to each other, trying to make them more friendly. We all know D doesn’t get along with F. We’ve known that for years so hopefully they can reconcile their differences. So Apple is doing all this stuff just to make this thing smaller and thinner and the trackpad is also closer to the keyboard. There’s not much space between the trackpad and the bottom of the keyboard. And guess what? They took away the click feature on the trackpad. That’s a big no-no. I love my clickable trackpad. I click it all the time. I hardly do the tap to click so I’m not a big fan about that if that is true. So now looking at the MacBook Air when it’s closed, obviously it’s thinner than the current design but it still has that tapered design going from thin on the top to really thin on the bottom. And the speakers have been redesigned. There are four speaker grills above the keyboard, and those holes for the speakers act as the ventilation system for the internals because guess what? Apple took away the fans on the inside so there are no fans inside of this laptop, again to reduce the thickness and make it as compact as possible. Because some genius at Apple was like “Fans? Who needs fans. We got speakers. Holes, air, cooler, science.” The 2015 MacBook Air has the fewest number of ports ever on an Apple laptop. On the right side it’s just a headphone jack and the two microphones. On the left side it has one USB port. That USB port is a Type C port. That’s right. They took away all the standard USB ports, the SD card slot, the Thunderbolt port, and the MagSafe port. So what the heck dude like how are we gonna charge our laptop? Well this new USB type C port is able to handle charging and it’s able to handle displays so what I’m assuming is Apple’s gonna have to ship some type of hub or adapter along with this MacBook Air because you’ll be charging your MacBook Air through this USB Type C port and that’ll leave you with no other ports. So Apple’s gonna have to send something that gives you your SD card slot and your USB ports back. And since Space Gray is one of the most popular colors for iPads and iPhones there is a rumor that this new MacBook Air’s gonna come in a space gray version. So if you like space gray, I like space gray, we’ll see how that looks if that is true. And the rumored release date is mid 2015. So what do I think of this new design? I think it’s outrageous that Apple is sacrificing all these features and usability for just thinness, just to make it as thin and compact and small as possible. I mean the MacBook Air is already pretty small. It’s one of the smallest laptops out there and it’s one of the most portable laptops if you’ve seen my 2014 MacBook Air review, I’ll leave a link in the description. That is the best laptop for travelers and students in my opinion. Nobody’s thinking “Uh yeah I wish this MacBook Air was thinner and smaller and more lightweight. It’s just too heavy.” So the highlights of this new 2015 MacBook Air would obviously be the portability, the thinness, the small compact design, and the battery life. The battery life should be amazing since they have no fan inside and with the new Intel processors if they put those in there. I think that’s kind of a bogus trade-off right now. I wouldn’t want to give up all those features just for a smaller laptop. So I think this new 2015 MacBook Air is like Apple’s iPad version of their laptop models, leaving the MacBook Pro as the more powerful feature filled laptop. So heavily depending on the price and if it comes with that USB hub and how well that hub works, this MacBook Air may be a good purchase but right now I’m just not into it. So what do you think after seeing all these mockups and hearing about the new design? And again this is all rumors. Things could change. Nothing has been confirmed by Apple. We’ll have to wait and see, but let me know your thoughts about this in the comment section below. If you want to check out the full article by 9to5 Mac the link will be in the description as well. So thank you guys so much for watching. Make sure you subscribe to this channel if you want more tech videos and reviews, all that kind of stuff. And give this video a like. Apple iPhone 6 Review

Transcript:

This is the iPhone 6, one of two new Apple iPhones in 2014. Let’s start off with the new design. I wasn’t a big fan of the new design when I first saw it online because of the two awkward horizontal antennas on the back, but since I’ve owned it, the design has definitely grown on me. Even though I do still believe the 4s and 5s are the best looking iPhones to date. The iPhone 6 has new curved edges which I personally like, but it does make the phone more slippery so it’s a good idea to put a case on to prevent the phone from slipping out of your hands. The iPhone 6 is super lightweight. It’s lighter and thinner than the 5s, but since it is so thin the camera sticks out a little bit on the back, but again a case will make this a non-issue. Apple also changed the location of the power button. It’s now on the side instead of the top which makes it easier to press because of the phone’s larger size. Of course the most important new feature of the iPhone 6 is the new screen size. It has a 4.7” Retina display with a resolution of 1334×750. So it’s not sporting a full 1080p display like some other smartphones on the market which is kind of a bummer, but don’t get me wrong this screen is still very very crisp. Colors look vibrant and I can’t see any pixelation no matter how close I get. The larger screen definitely comes in handy when I’m reading and responding to emails, even though currently a lot of apps are just blown up to fit the larger screen. Hopefully these apps will get updates soon. The 4.7” is definitely the sweet spot for me. The phone fits perfectly in all my pockets, and it doesn’t consume half of my face when I’m talking on it, or when I’m just talking to myself. The iPhone 6 is faster with its new 64-bit dual core A8 chip. iOS 8 runs beautifully. Apps open and load pretty quickly. There’s no lag whatsoever even for spotlight search which is probably the first time an iPhone has done that. And a lot of people forget how useful and fast Touch ID is on the new iPhone 6. I mean, seriously. It also has new and improved WiFi along with built-inNFC for Apple Pay. The iSight camera is one of the best new features of the iPhone 6. It’s still an 8-megapixel camera but it has a new sensor with a new feature called Focus Pixels which is also known as phase detection AutoFocus. But whatever you choose to call it, we can all agree that it’s awesome. The camera focuses so much faster than the 5s, and it takes some great looking photos even in low light or pitch black situations. The camera is also able to record videos in full 1080p at 60 frames per second and super slow-mo 240 frames per second in 720p. It also has cinematic video stabilization which makes shaky videos look smoother and more cinematic. Also has a cool time lapse mode too. If this wasn’t an iPhone it would almost be worth it just for the camera itself. I just wish they would have made the front facing camera better than it is. Still pretty crappy for selfies in my opinion. Finally, let’s talk about the battery. It’s not that it’s bad, but it’s just not that much better. On a normal day of pretty heavy usage I can make it through my normal 16 hours without having to charge it, but it still needs to be charged every night, just like with my 5s. I can start off with 100% at 7am and by 8pm it’s at less than 20% but that’s after going through the day streaming Spotify over LTE, web surfing, checking email, listening to music over Bluetooth, all that stuff. So it lasts long enough for a day, but I was just hoping for a little bit more. Should I get rid of my 6 for the 6 Plus to get more battery life? No, I’m okay with charging every night and I can truly say, at least for now, that I’m happy with my iPhone 6. I think you’ll be too.

iPhone 6 Unboxing & Hands-On

Transcript:

Hey guys what’s up? It’s Andy with MyTechMethods and this is my full iPhone 6 unboxing video. This is the iPhone 6, the brand new iPhone 6 not the 6 plus. And this is the unlocked T-Mobile version 64 GB space gray model. And let’s get right into this unboxing. I got my handy dandy Andy knife. We’re gonna see what kind of damage we can do to this box so let’s go ahead and slice it open here and we’ll see what the iPhone 6 looks like, give it a first look and hands-on with it. And listen to that plastic. Oh yeah sounds great. Love unboxing phones. That’s my favorite thing in the world. Alright let’s open this box and there we go. We got the new iPhone 6 right there, and we’re gonna pull the little plastic tab to pull it out of the box and there you go. Here’s a quick look at the iPhone 6 and we’re gonna go around the phone and just point out the basics. There’s a quick look at the back, got the Apple logo and of course it says iPhone at the bottom. And let’s take a look at the bottom of the phone. Of course we got the headphones jack, the microphone, the lightning connector, and the speakers. And there is the touch ID home button on the front. And there’s the vibrate switch and the volume rockers up-and-down, same that hasn’t changed. And the top, the power button is now on the side. So there’s nothing on the top and the power button is on the side along with the SIM card slot. There is the back of the phone and the new camera. As you can see it sticks out just a little bit on this new iPhone 6 so we’ll see how that works out. So let’s go ahead and take the plastic off this. This may be the best part of the unboxing right here. Nice and slow, there we go. Alright now we got the iPhone 6 naked, no plastic and it does look beautiful. The rounded edges are, I like the rounded edges so there’s a quick look at the back again. And we’re gonna power this up in a second. First let’s go over the rest of the contents that are in the iPhone 6 box. It shouldn’t be too much of a difference. Of course we got the quick start guide for the iPhone 6, and we have some more information on the iPhone. And we have the 2 big Apple stickers if you don’t have those already. And we got the power adapter along with the lightning to USB cable and the Apple ear buds, which probably won’t get used. Probably stay in the box. Alright put that to the side, and we’ll power the iPhone 6 on and get a closer look at it when it’s turned on and booted up into iOS. And I’m gonna speed this up just a little bit for the sake of this video. And here is the hello screen. You can set up your iPhone pretty quickly and now we are booted into iOS 8 on the new iPhone 6. And here’s a closer look. This is my iPhone 6 compared to my iPhone 5s. And you can see it’s a little bit of a difference, not that much bigger but it’s a noticeable difference. And there’s the back of it and you can see the iPhone 6 has a newer design on the back. And there is a closer look to see how thin the iPhone 6 is compared to the iPhone 5s which is pretty thin. So that was my quick unboxing of the new iPhone 6. Make sure you give this video a thumbs up and subscribe to this channel if you haven’t already because I will be coming out with my full iPhone 6 review here very soon. So thank you so much for watching. Keep having fun out there. I’ll talk to you later.
